About the Paralympic Post
The Paralympic Post offers its readers exciting news on the Paralympic Games, the abilities of people with an impairment and the importance of sports in the rehabilitation process. The editorial concept of the paper is a great success: Students from Germany and the host country of the Games report from the Paralympics and write the articles. Their authentic coverage and the original concept have received a number of awards. The issues of the newspapers are published on occasion of the Paralympic Summer- and Winter Games as well as other Paralympic events.
Publishers
The Paralympic Post is published by the Publishing House Der Tagesspiegel and the German Social Accident Insurance DGUV (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung). The National Paralympic Committee of Germany Deutscher Behindertensportverband e.V. (DBS) is the project’s longstanding partner.
Background
The Paralympic Post was initiated by the DGUV on occasion of the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games. The Paralympic Post Torino 2006 included articles in four languages and was awarded the "European Language Label 2006" by the European Commission. A European-Chinese editorial team worked on the Paralympic Post Beijing 2008. For the first time, an issue was published as a supplement to the German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel and DIE ZEIT. Two issues of the Paralympic Post were published as supplements to the German papers Der Tagesspiegel, DIE ZEIT and Handelsblatt on occasion of the Vancouver 2010 Games. The circulation was 900,000 copies per issue which reached four million readers in Germany. The Paralympic Post Vancouver 2010 was awarded the "World Young Reader Prize" in the category "Making the News" by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA). On occasion of the London 2012 Paralympic Games three German language issues of the Paralympics Zeitung und two English issues of the Paralympic Post were published as supplements. The Paralympics Zeitung was inserted into the daily papers Handelsblatt, Der Tagesspiegel and Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten as well as the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT, thus reaching an overall circulation of approximately three million. The English-language copies were published as a supplement to the newspaper SecEd in an editorial cooperation with the London Evening Standard. On occasion of the Sochi 2014 Winter Games two German issues were supplemented to DIE ZEIT, Der Tagesspiegel and Handelsblatt. The two Russian issues called Paralimpijskij Reporter were published as supplements to the major economic newspaper Vedomosti. The English language Paralympic Post was distributed to members of the European Parliament as well as other decision makers from economic, political and cultural sectors.
